What
is DivX ?
DivX is a new compression format (video codec) for digital video
and works with Windows Media Player(WMP). It means that the
video download time can be significantly reduced due to the
highly efficient compression used in DivX technology. So instead
of downloading a 5 Mb file, you only need to download 2Mb file
and thats why we are using it. Once installed. WMP will
use it whenever it attempts to play a video file encoded with
this codec. To easier identify the divX files, we have named
them with the .divx file extn. If you would like to read more
wbout this compression technology, visit www.divx.com.
Installation
Q: How do I install the DivX codec?
A: Step 1: Download DivX 4.12 Download
Now
Step 2: Run (Double-click) the installer on your system and
follow the directions.
You may need to restart the PC after installing the codec,so,
make a note of this URL www.brittanygite.com so you can come
back and view more videos.
Q: Will DivX overwrite other DivX codecs?
A: No. DivX will not change or modify any files relating to
other DivX codecs without your permission. DivX 4.x will ask
you if you want it to play all DivX content (including older
versions of DivX) when you install. You can choose to have
it do this or not; it's your choice.
Q: Why should I upgrade to the latest version
of DivX?
A: That's easy. Because it's the best DivX codec to date!
Problems running the video after installing
the DivX codec?
Q: I downloaded a file from the site and it doesn't work in
Windows Media Player. What is going on?
A: If you click and attempt to view a file directly from the
video link, and Windows Media Player launches to view the file,
the application will appear to hang. The application is not
actually hanging. It's actually a confusing user interface in
Windows Media Player. It is not telling you that it is downloading
the file before it will begin to play it. So if you wait until
the entire file downloads, the file will play normally.
Another way to fix this is to right-click
on the video links on our site and choose "Save As..."
to download the video file to your local machine. Then start
Windows Media Player (or your player application of choice)
and open the video file to view it. (Just double-clicking
on the file may sometimes cause strange behavior, so start
the application first and then open the file.)
The DivX codec (short for compression-decompression)
is based on the MPEG-4 compression standard. This codec is so
advanced that it can reduce an MPEG-2 video (the same format
used for DVD or Pay-Per-View) to ten percent of its original
size. Video on regular VHS tapes can be reduced to about one
hundredth of their original size.
In essence, DivX compression technology makes it possible for
you to download and playback high quality digital movies on
your PC and other devices.
Playing DivX videos
Q: What media players can I use?
A: Windows Media Player 6.4, 7, and 8; Real Player; BS Player,
and The Playa. We recommend using The Playa. You can download
it as part of the DivX Bundle.
Q: What should I do when Windows Media says,
Cant find appropriate decompressor?
A: Make sure you have the latest version of the DivX
codec installed. Check that the file you are playing is a
DivX encoded file. If you are playing a file that is encoded
with another codec you will need to download that codec to
play that file.
Q: Why can I hear audio but not see video?
A: Make sure you have the DivX codec installed correctly.
If you do, then try reducing the video resolution to 800x600
or 640x480. You can also try changing the color depth to 24
or 32 bit.
Q: Why can I see video, but I can't hear audio?
A: Is the volume turned up? Make sure you have the correct
audio codecs installed and that your sound card supports the
audio format.
Minimum Requirements for your PC
Q: Why does it play so slow?
A: Does your system meet the minimum requirements? Do you
have a lot of other things running? Close all other applications
and try again. You also may need to turn down the level of
post processing for smooth playback.
Q: The audio is out of sync, what should I
do?
A: Make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements
for the playback of a DivX file. Also try reducing the
screen size to 800x600 or 640x480, and change color depth
to 32bit.
Q: What are the minimum requirements for playing a DivX
file?
A: The minimum hardware requirements for the Windows and Linux
versions are:
Pentium II 450 processor or equivalent
64 MB or more of RAM
8 MB or higher video card
The Windows version further requires the following software:
DirectX 7 or 8
Minimum 24-bit color when using Windows Media Player
For the best performance, we recommend a Pentium III 600 processor
or equivalent, 128 MB of RAM, and a 16 MB video card.
Q: Which operating systems support DivX
software?
A: We are currently developing DivX video to work on
multiple platforms. Today it works on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP,
Linux, and the Pocket PC platforms. We are currently Alpha
testing the lastest version for the Mac OS and hope to have
the final version released soon.
